Martha Stewart Countdown #50 How to Make a Snow Globe

Wanna create a winter wonderland in a jar! I do! There is something so magical about starring at a snow globe. I love watching glitter twinkle around my eyes like magical stars. When I spot a snow globe the first thing I wanna do is SHAKE it up. {I am sure that is everyone’s first reasction}. When I was in New York the Empire State Building had the BEST snow globes. I wanted to buy every one of them and then realized I had tons of craft material to bring home and couldn’t fit everything in my suit cases! I did manage to get some fun and exciting gifts though. I think another thing is that Louisiana hardly ever sees snow. That is why snow globes are fun for US. You can put whatever magical things you love inside of them and it can immediately take you away to a place only your imagination will let you go.

Almost any jar works for this project: Baby-food, pimiento, and olive jars are good choices. Look for plastic or ceramic figurines (metal ones are prone to rust)! We don’t want rusty snow ha!

If the jar lids are not in seasonal colors already, paint them with oil-based enamel paint. Sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough. With clear-drying epoxy, adhere the figurine to the inside of the lid, and let the epoxy dry.

Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water; add a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin to keep the glitter from falling too quickly. Don’t add too much, or the glitter will stick to the bottom of the jar when it’s flipped. Screw on the lid tightly, being careful not to dislodge the figurine. Turn the jar over and back again — and let it snow.

I hope you have fun with this baby and stay tuned for more exciting things!
