The Simple Secret to making faux flowers come to life!

Today I will show you how to DIY with Faux Flowers. Whether you’re looking for fun décor, bright blooms, or cute party supplies, Michaels has everything you need to MAKE summer fun! If you follow me on any of my social media outlets you will notice that I take lot’s of flower pictures. I don’t know but I just get some kinda joy when I see something beautiful blooming strangely out of the ground.

This month’s Michaels Makers challenge is completely based around faux (fake) flowers. Now I know what you are thinking… I am “so” not a fake flower person because I was saying the same thing until I had the chance to gawk over the realistic flowers at Michaels. I also grabbed a few items from the store as well to make my flowers feel at home. You won’t believe the awesome items for Summer decor that are in the stores now. Who’s ready to check it all out!

Now before we begin I want to tell you that one thing I love about faux flowers is if you can purchase some that look really real then you can spread them out all over your space and things will look fresh as all get out all year long. Don’t worry that is what I plan on doing with mine! Yes I purchased this cute blue and white vase at Michaels a well!

Summer is right around the corner and let’s face it we all travel a lot which means if you have real flowers out then most likely they will be dead and gone when you get home. One good thing about these faux tulips is they will live forever, hehe… alongside these beautiful wild flowers. Are you also digging this stellar vase as well! Between me and you blue and white goes with any decor so get out and grab you some!

I love these end tables Michaels is carrying, which come in a ton of colors. The orange just stuck out to me so I had to have it, plus I love the pattern. Way to go Michaels.

The great thing about wild flower bouquets is you can snip off a few of the flowers and add them to little vases for a modern look. Small vases look great around bathtubs, kitchen sinks and in bathrooms.

If you are smart you are already in your car driving to Michaels! Listen you have to grab these flowers before they run out. Also, they have a large variety of string lights which look good around anything. I won’t lie, as soon as I took these pictures I strung these lights over my bed… SWOON!

Are you drooling over these delicate pink flowers yet?
Remember this project I did last month for Michaels? If you have not seen it  you must check it out, it might give you some more faux inspiration.  I hope you enjoyed learning a few simple ways to incorporate faux flowers into your life. You know you want some Fabric Band-Aids! I am sitting on my sofa watching Diners, Drive – In’s and Dives eating left over Veggie Soup and my Cat Hanna just pooted right. near. my. face. She is just lucky her cute face makes up for the nastiness seeping out of her you know what. I know it’s time for Christmas but today I just realized that I have not posted any Thanksgiving projects on my blog this year. I am not sure how I should feel about this situation. I mean, I complain to no ends about corporate stores setting up Christmas stuff in October and skipping right over the day of giving thanks! Now, I know some of you are crying your little eyes out waiting for me to post some weird object in my house that has been transformed into a turkey neck or a chicken leg but that will not happen, however I do have a FREE Thanksgiving printable for YOU! Right now I am giving thanks to my brain for thinking of this project the other day when I cut myself in my studio.

I was literally sitting on my floor creating THIS project and I cut my finger. I hopped on over to my handy dandy first aid kit that BTW needs to be bedazzled and grabbed a bandaid. I slapped it on my finger and wished I had some cute Kate Spade or Hello Kitty band-aid. Heller, Xyron + Fabric + Boring Band-aids = Gangsta Baids. I know my fabric is not a lick of “gangsta” but if a gangsta wore it you would think it was. Let’s get started! Fabric Band-Aids using Xyron

I can’t lie I was hoping I would cut myself just so I could put one of these babies on me. You know you could make a batch of these and give them to someone as a Christmas gift and I pinky promise they will love them.

In other news tonight I ate Bar-B-Q and it was delicious. However, the entire time I was eating I could not stop thinking about the astronaut “food” I ran across in Michaels today. I mean do people really eat that and if so how come they only had strawberry and chocolate ice-cream? Personally if I would (notice I said IF) spend my hard earned money on dried food I would want rice and gravy or lasagna. Do they even have that or do they only eat ice-cream…SEE, now you get my drift…

Remember a while back when I posted this picture below? Remember how stressed I was trying to figure out what to do with this odd little piece of wood? I received ton’s of advice on what I should and shouldn’t do. So much advice that I got completely distracted all over again and could not make up my mind.

Like, who else freaks out about stuff like this? I feel like I need a stump to sit on and “think” when I have to make design decisions. After staying up many nights (not really) I finally decided to trust my bestie Martha. She always knows what do to. Come see what I ended up doing.

Learn how to Stenci - www.jaderbomb.com

Initially I painted the wood with black chalk paint. I wanted a whimsical space where I could write positive notes on. Yeah, not so much once it was there.

It’s obvious I love anything with chalk. Check out what I did to my fridge. I also made some rad chalk labels. In today’s project you will learn how to Stencil.

I used Martha Stewarts Geometric Patterns Laser Cut Stencils. They are super easy to use and affordable, at a low price of $16.99. I like things like this because it will not break the bank and you can always paint over it when you get tired of looking at it.

“Use stencils to create beautiful painted designs on fabric, wood, glass and other surfaces. Contains 3 laser cut stencils 8 3/4in x 16 3/4in, 12 designs, and instructions”.

Correct way to use stencils - JaderbombYou will simply lay the stencil down on any surface, grab a sponge and lightly sponge on top of the stencil. I am very ocd so after every application I would wash the stencil and pat it dry. When you move onto the the next section just take one row and lay it on top of the last one you painted.

This will line up the stencil pattern. Once you are done stenciling your entire surface, let it dry for 24 hours. When dry apply a layer of Mod Podge on top. Let it dry completely and apply a second coat.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and found it helpful. Make sure to let me know in the comments if you have any questions or if you want to share your experience with stenciling. I love to hear your thoughts! See you in the next post.
