“Hip Hop Hooray, Hoooo” for the DIY Leather Cuff we are making today… Right about here you can insert a big old turquoise rock in my mouth. For some reason I am listening to sad, sad music on my computer but that song is BLASTING in my head. It’s probably because Marisa Pawelco’s die cuts are amaze-balls!

timthumb

I am all about buying leather cuffs because let’s face it it’s easier and most of us don’t have the patience to sit there and cut a perfect line on leather. Remember when I made this one! I think Marisa though of all the impatient people out there when she designed her line with Sizzix!

♥→Today I will show you how to use an awesome crafting tool and how to create the most unique leather cuff using it.

DIY Leather Cuff If you are like me then you are totally in love with this turquoise rock! Let’s get started.
you will need
Scraps of Leather \ Brush \ Adhesive Bling \ Scissors \ Yarn \ Fabric Paint (optional) \ Sizzix Sophisticate Machine Only \  Sizzix Originals Die: Chained \ Sizzix Originals Die : Fashion Cuff

Hey! If you want to purchase any of the items I used in this tutorial you can click on the links above and get them all from the SAME spot! They are affiliate links which means you are helping me buy more glitter and gold to make you happy crafts!

leather cuff supplies The Sophisticate machine comes with a few parts that you will have to assemble, but don’t worry it’s simple! sizzix marisa pawelko

1. Insert the handle into the side of machine
2. Use the screw driver that came with the machine to secure screw inside of the handle
3. Insert the rubber cap that covers the hole

VOILA! Pretty simple huh! sizziz die cut

On each side of your die cut machine you press where the sticker is and the sides will flip open.  marisa pawelko sizzix machine

These are the two die cuts we will be using today.

P.S. Do not remove the foam and be careful because the metal inside the rubber is really sharp.
Said no one who sliced their finger trying to “dissect” the chains.
marisa pawelko die cuts

You have two cutting pads that come with the machine and you will need both every time you cut something.
marisa pawelko

To start you will lay out your leather scrap and place one of  the cutting pads on top. With a pair of fabric scissors cut as close around the pad as you can. This does not have to be “perfect”, we just don’t want too much hanging off the edges.
cutting leather

This is how you will layer everything before we start inserting it into the machine.
1st layer: Cutting Pad
2nd layer: Die Cut of choice
3rd layer: Leather
4th layer: Cutting pad.

It’s like a crafty sandwich. Speaking of sandwiches, I think I want one with chips smashed on it.
leather crafts

Keep it all together nice and neat while inserting into the machine. The great thing is it’s convenient for anyone regardless if you are right handed or left.

Shoots, you can even do it with your feet if you want.  making leather cuffs

This is what it will look like when you run it completely through the machine. How amazing! It’s like a slice of heaven on a platter. Check out how precise it cuts and those dots…PERFECTION. easy leather cuff

I love how detailed all of her die cuts are. Check out the chains! I have so many ideas just looking at them.

I am also in love with the negative space in this leather. You can even use this as a stencil now. leather diy

I am using shiny lion brand yarn for my string. I love this tan color. If you don’t like the way I am attaching the yarn you can simply tie a knot or put a chain on the ends. It’s really so versatile.  7.jpg

Jewelry takes people’s minds off your wrinkles - Sonja Henie

Hey everyone! I am just getting back from the most amazing trip ever and I wanted to share this tutorial with you on making Color Blocked Gold Bracelets . I will be sharing more about the my trip later this week so make sure to come back and check it out!

If you are like me then you can sometimes be cheap! Very cheap!

I personally call it being “smart”, right. I found a set of gold bracelets a while back at Old Navy and bought them. Check out what I was REALLY doing there when I found them.  I wasn’t sure exactly what I would do with them but I knew I would figure it out and it would be RAD. If you like gold check out this cute gold flag banner I made for a cake.

I finally decided I wanted to add a splash of color to them. Finger nail polish is the best thing to apply to metal because it stays on for a LONG time. Let’s get started. Color Blocked Gold Bracelets How beautiful are these bracelets. I knew they would be a hit on my vacation and now I am madly in love with them. I think I need about 10 more on my wrist.

You will need:
1. Nail Polish
2. Gold Bracelets or Gold Chain HOW TO PAINT METAL JADERBOMB I am using Covergirl outlast stay brilliant nail polish. I am in love with all of their colors and they fit perfectly with my smile!

If you want to purchase all of the colors from one spot make sure to click my affiliate links below! The colors I am using in this post are:
1. Mint Mojito 285
2. Snow Storm 110
3. Go-Go Mango 245
4. Salt Water Taffy (not sure of number) FINGERNAIL POLISHED JEWELERY

COVERGIRL NAIL POLISH DIY

15 gold diy's Step 1:  Lay out your gold bracelet on a clean surface and coat one side with nail polish. painting gold bracelts Move on to the next one and remember to coat one side at a time. It doesn’t take too long for the polish to dry. In 10 minutes you can flip it over and do the other side. I like to do about 2 good coats  of each color. My goal is to give it a matte finish.  how to paint You can see below how it will look if you only do one side of the bracelet. Depending on the links I would decide if I wanted to do both sides on some of them.  diy bracelets One tip I have when storing bracelets is to sling them over the top of a really cool jar. You can find these at garage sales or vintage stores. Plus it looks really pretty.  EASY KIDS CRAFTS

Today I will teach you how to become a Fashion Blogger.  I totally think I missed my calling in life and you will completely see this in the pictures below.

Yes, that would be a high end fashion model… You don’t think?

My son actually took these pictures and we figured out two things after he took them.
1- He should be a high end fashion photographer (attention attention)
2- He know’s all about shutter speed (or this was just luck)

Who’s ready to see the REAL way to take pictures of “bags” for your BLERG.

Check out my tie dyed shirt I did for Old Navy and this canvas bag for I love to Create. Click on the links and you will see the FULL tutorial.

EXAMPLE 1: STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH BAG SLIGHTLY COVERING THE TOP PART OF YOUR LEGS.
fashion blogger  EXAMPLE 2: STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF ROAD AND HOLD BAG WITH A SLIGHT SEXINESS TO IT AND JUMP STRAIT UP IN THE AIR. CAREFUL NOW THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS.  fashion pictures EXAMPLE 3: STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TOUCH THE BAG WITH ONE HAND LIKE YOU ARE PROTECTING IT FROM ALIENS WHILE OTHER HAND IS BENT AND SEXY. P.S. DON’T FORGET TO BEND ONE KNEE, NOT TWO. JUST ONE.  how to pose for pictures EXAMPLE 4: STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND JUMP STRAIT UP WITH KNEES BENT.  REMEMBER WE STILL NEED TO LOOK WHIMSICAL AND SEXY ALL WHILE KEEPING THE BAG IN THE PICTURE. WE CAN SEE I OBVIOUSLY SUCCEEDED HERE.  jumping in pictures  EXAMPLE 5: STAND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE HOLDING YOUR BAG AND PRETEND TO RUN AFTER A CAB WHILE SMILING AND POINTING YOUR TOES. learn to run in pictures
EXAMPLE 6: RUN ACROSS THE ROAD WHILE TRYING TO DO A SPLIT IN THE AIR ( BUT NOT TOO MUCH )

MAKE SURE TO CUT THE HEAD OFF OF THE PICTURE. THIS WILL TOTALLY GET YOU THAT GAP CONTRACT YOU HAVE BEEN WANTING. KENDI CAN PROLLY HELP ME ON THIS ONE.  learn to take action shots  EXAMPLE 7: STICK YOUR ARMS OUT AND PLACE THE BAG IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE. I RECOMMEND WEARING A LITTLE BIT OF MAKEUP FOR THIS ONE.  picture shots for bloggers  EXAMPLE 8: STAND SIDEWAYS AND HANG YOUR BAG ALMOST TO THE GROUND ON THE SIDE OF YOUR BODY. posing for action shots  EXAMPLE 9: FACE THE CAMERA WHILE HOLDING BAG IN FRONT OF YOU. REMEMBER THE KEY IS TO LOOK AS UN-NATURAL AS POSSIBLE. posing with bags for pictures  EXAMPLE 10: THIS IS THE MOMENT YOU GIVE IT YOUR ALL WHILE THE MAN IN THE BACKGROUND UNLOADS A DRESSER FROM A TRUCK. TRY TO MAKE YOUR HAIR FLOAT IN THE PICTURE SO YOU LOOK LIKE A DISNEY PRINCESS.  How to become a Fashion Blogger I mean, I will be honest with you. It’s that easy to become a fashion model. If I can make it so can you. Stay tuned for the next photo shoot with a really cool Old Navy Striped Dress.

80's Throwback Bag

What is Darby Smart?

At Darby Smart, leading designers launch simple DIY projects based on the latest fashion and home trends.
We turn their projects into kits that include chic materials and simple instructions, and send them to you. Create a unique design and show off your style.

It’s like an online vacation for DIY addicts. You can visit the site, find a project kit that is interesting to you and voila. This is what makes this company stand out from others! When you visit this site you will notice that the layout is very user friendly and each project is up to date, trendy and ridiculously cute!

I was so stoked when I received my Darby Smart 80s Throwback Tote Bag kit in the mail the other day. The box was sitting at my front door and I instantly knew what it was. How did I know? Maybe it was the fact that the box was a bold teal shade and the sides were filled with white chevron stripes. Yes, I kept the box. You already know I am a box hoarder.

I have one goal in mind. To create a killer 80′s bag that I could pull off wearing with anything.

fdfd

*Tulip Fabric Spray Paint (yes these colors are amazing and metallic)
*Baggu Tote Bag
(which is legit)
*Tulip Sponge Dauber
*Ronda Palazzari Cassette Tape Stencil
(this alone is an art piece)
*Aleene’s Tacky Adhesive Spray
(this was not in the kit but I use for all stencils)

Darby-Smart-Throwback-Bag-Supplies

I am in love with these stencils. They truly scream 80′s graffiti! The second I saw them my brain was going crazy. I can’t wait to play with them some more.

darby-smart-bag-stencil

If we are going to talk about falling in love with something else it’s Tulips fabric spray paint. When you use these once just consider it an addiction. I promise you will find anything and everything to spray paint.

darby-smart-tulip-spray-paint

The first thing you want to do is place the stencil on the bag where you want it. I wanted to use the entire stencil since the each cassette was uniquely designed. I used a little tacky spray on the back of stencil to hold it in place. This really prevents it from moving while you are working with it.

I am going with a true 80′s graffiti styled bag.

DARBY-SMART-THROWBACK-BACK

Once your stencil is in place start spraying away. Since each of the metallic sprays make my eyes sing with joy I decided to use all of them. Why not! These sprays are amazing and need to be seen! When you are done let the paint dry. I usually let it sit for 1 hour before I remove the stencil.

darby-smart-tulip-spray-paint-bag

darby-smart-80s-spray-paint-bag

The best part is when you take the stencil off. It’s like magic, y’all!  I only designed one side of the bag but you can do it on both sides or wrap the image around the entire bag. If you only want to use one of the cassettes you can place it where you want then tape off the others. Don’t you worry, I made a shirt to go with the bag also!

Happy Monday Y’all! I am sitting at home with my coffee, listening to Enya and warming up my feet with a little floor heater at my desk. I am so pumped to share with you the tutorial I did on the I Love to Create Blog. I post every two weeks there incase you didn’t know. This leather cuff tutorial brings together two different looks that anyone can sport. A soft delicate flower with a rough biker edge to it. I am not quite sure if the two actually go together but I loved it. Once I made it I realized how cool it would be if I had a “collection” of leather cuffs. I mean one for each holiday, season etc. I think it’s a huge statement piece and you can never go wrong with a leather cuff. You could give these as Christmas presents, wedding favors, or just get a group of your friends together and make them!

This leather cuff tutorial is easy enough to whip out 5 in no time. Seriously when you see how easy it is you will be amazed. I hope you enjoy it.
