Kitchen Decorating

Boom Chaka Laka, Chaka Laka, Chaka Laka, Laka BOOM! I am on this odd spoon kick lately. I am not quite sure how to kick it so I decided to share all of the fun things I been doing with them. You remember the other day when I posted this, well before I put up all of my colored nail polish I thought hard about what else I could do with them. I went into a day long daze (crafters you know what this is) and BOOM. This thought happened. Kitchen Decorating 101. Well, not exactly what you see below but the thought of bright, whimsical, retro spoons happened in my noggin. Initially I thought they would look great in a glass jar in the kitchen. I put them in a jar but it was like looking at yourself in the mirror while trying on bathing suits. It worked but didn’t work. Or in my case I have just resorted to the “shirt” on top because I don’t want the sun to burn me. Wink Wink!

Anyways, I grabbed some gold glitter and sprinkled it over my head then the magical thought of a spoon display occurred to me. There you go, now you have my trick on how I create things. Let’s get started!

you will need

Wooden Spoon | Nail Polish | Wooden Plaque
decorative wooden spoons Rainbow Nail Polish

I am going to be honest, there was no specific pattern involved just pure excitement. I did want them to feel a little tribal | retro | whimsical | happy | colorful and that is exactly what I got. I was not planning on doing a black and white one until I put them together. I needed that to break the colors up, I think that was a smart choice.

how to paint on spoons

What colors will you be using? It would even look great as a whole set in one specific color/design. Now remember I did not coat them with anything because the nail polish gave me a great shiny finish.

painted spoons

I painted a piece of wood white and let that dry over night with the spoons. Once everything is dry you can then glue the spoons to the wood with the glue of your choice.
DO NOT EAT FROM THESE OR COOK WITH THEM. THESE ARE  JUST FOR DECORATIONS!
I made these for decoration purposes.

Big Glittery HUGS from me to YOU!

Well here goes another great month of “crafty” crafts. I am having so much fun doing the 12 month’s of Martha every  month. This month I received a great big box box full of Martha goodies. Of course I always open the box and the first thing I think of is “What can I make with all of these materials”…
Then I realize that would end up looking like a hot mess, haha. I have always wanted an herb garden, you know the kind  that is small, cute and you can keep it in your kitchen.  Can you believe I finally made one! You can too. Seriously, it so easy and fun.

Let’s get started Jaderbugs!

yarn-wrapped-herb-garden-jaderbomb

Isn’t this herb garden so cute! My favorite thing is that it looks quite elegant with the little white stripes wrapping all the way around the container. I never thought I would wrap yarn around something to display in my home but this yarn is so “fannnnncyyy”. (Say that like you are from the South)

you will need jaderbomb

*Decorative paper
*Layering Punch, Flourish Frame
*Craft Glue
*Mambo Yarn
*Baker’s Twine
*Herbs
*Wooden Skewers

You can purchase all of the items I used by clicking on the linky links!

Get together whatever herbs you love and some garden soil.

I wanted to show you how beautiful this mambo yarn is up close.
You can braid it, knot it, wrap it or make jewelry. You can even use it as a trim for home décor and fashion accessories.

It’s made of  75% Acrylic, 7% Wool, 9% Nylon, 6% Viscose, 3% Angora

yarn-wrapped-herb-garden-jaderbomb This new double punch punches a solid shape and the die cut shape. I think this is the coolest thing ever.
Another good thing is it stands up right on their own, which makes for easy storage.

See, you can get the solid shape in a jiffy.

yarn-wrapped-herb-garden-jaderbomb

If you don’t want the solid shape you can get the frame. This frame will fit completely around the solid shape.

Get any container you want to put your herbs in.

yarn-wrapped-herb-garden-jaderbomb

Start by adding a dab of hot glue on the container and gently placing the yarn on top of it.

Continue wrapping until it is all covered. I love it just like this, right!

Once you are completely done fill that baby up with soil and herbs.

yarn-wrapped-herb-garden-jaderbomb

With your double punch, punch out the solid shape and the frame.  When you buy flowers or herbs they have that little label in the soil that says the name of herb and how to take care of it. I cut the picture from the label off then glued it on top of the solid shape. When done place the frame over it.

On the back I put the name of the actual herb just incase I forget.

*Glue
* Skewer
*Baker’s Twine

Wrap the baker’s twine around the stick while the glue is still wet.

Don’t you just love these great colors. Someday’s when I feel down I just go in my studio and look through my tubes of paint. They are filled with happiness I tell ya.  For this project I used Geranium and Pool.

When you open your pack of silk screens they will look like the picture above, all connected on one sheet.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

If you notice they have white lines separating each design. You should cut along the line to separate them.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

This is how they will look once you cut them.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

Find the image you want to use and gently peel the silk screen off of the paper. I like to start on a corner. Plus if it get’s crinkled it will not mess up the actual image. Once you remove the silk screen place it where you want on the glass.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

Once you apply your silk screen to the glass add a bead of paint right above the image.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

Get your squeegee and pull the paint down over the image. I suggest going from the top to the bottom in one stroke. It will make the paint consistent and even. Repeat the step if you have to do it in two layers.

Martha-Stewart-Giveaway-APOTHECARY-jars-jaderbomb

As soon as you finish, peel the silk screen off of the glass. Very important that you wash it immediately.  If you let the paint dry on the silk screen it will not work properly again. Once you wash it lay it out on a towel to dry.

Move on to your next jar.

Quote of the day:
“It is the first duty of the citizen to be calm.

Won’t you take me to… FUNKY TOWN with FUNKY ROCKS… with FUNKY MAGNETS…

You get it, I am pretty excited about these babies. However I never even got to put them up because dad took them to Hawaii and already gave them away! He said all of his friends there would love them. I was hoping he would of “forgot” to give them away. Eh. He didn’t.

Good thing is it’s only rocks! I can make TON’S more Jaderbugs! Let’s get started on our halloween rock magnets

Halloween Rock Magnets

 INGREDIENTS:

*Paint
*Glue Gun
*Craft Brush
*Baker’s Twine
*Rocks
*Magnets

Make sure you click on the links of ingredients to order these items!

The first thing you will do is paint your first coat of paint onto the rock. I like to do one half, let it dry then do the other half. Remember your first coat will be translucent to a certain degree.

I love taking pictures of my paint. It looks so pretty! NO. I don’t want to eat it, today.

Once your rocks are fully coated you can start painting your design on them. I really enjoy whimsical, organic designs.  Remember if you are putting different designs on your rocks to let each color dry thoroughly. I won’t show you the rocks that threw in a pile because I thought I had magical brushes that would not mix the paint together.

HAHA

To make the little designs with your baker’s twine I like to start by wrapping them around my finger like this. If you find an easier way please do that!

I know. I was lazy. I did NOT paint the  backs of my rocks. I mean, had I known they were taking a trip to Hawaii I would of.  But, once you are done painting and gluing you can place your magnet with an adhesive backing to the back of the rock. Where ever you choose to put your baker’s twine just hot glue it down.

This one kinda reminds me of Charlie Brown’s shirt. I love the way the black and white baker’s twine makes everything pop!

I am totally in LOVE with my little pumpkin. Guess I will make a new one!
(Insert shaking head here, haha)

I have this vintage serving plate in our kitchen and I use it to post important notes. These little magnet’s were cute on it.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, see ya in the next post! Make sure you come visit me in these places too! (look below this line, hehe)

Check what else I did  these Halloween earrings that look like these magnets here.

(p.s. before you read this. I wrote it last night, but fell asleep typing)

Happy hump day Jaderbugs. I always feel weird saying that but I also can’t help it. Right?!
This post is gonna be sorta short and sweet (like candy) because I had a full day and I am just getting to my computer! I sorta love day’s like this. You know, those day’s where ALOT get’s done.

Lately I have been “slowing” down a little bit. I can’t lie to you. That is very hard for a person like me as I am sure it is for many of you too! I like to go, go, go. You know how that is right? We tell ourselves there is “never” enough time in the day. What we are doing is telling the UNIVERSE there isn’t enough time and they are giving us exactly that. As a blogger it is sometimes hard to pry my fingers away from ONE of our computers. It’s my job. I have been putting my phone down after 6 pm until EVERYONE is asleep in the house. Then I let my fingers get back to work. Try it! It feels good!

I had so much fun with this mirror. A while back it was white and I painted it this color to spruce it up. I felt it needed just a little bit more! All I did was use paint, brushes, and sponge stamps. You can do whatever colors you like because after all, it’s gonna be your creation…

If you wanna see more of me find me here:

Make sure and send me any pictures you have of your updated WHATEVER!! (hehe)
You never know, I just might feature you on the Jaderbomb blog.
