Homemade Laundry Soap Detergent

Well. I finally did it. About a year ago I remember seeing a blogger friend try a “similar” recipe and I though, “What, that can’t clean like the nice expensive ones do”… Then I lived my life for the next year buying my nice expensive laundry detergent. Certain it WAS the best after all. Then about 3 months ago I saw a random pin on making some! Still didn’t convince me. I was certain my GAIN was the best.  ((plus I don’t love change))

Then about 4 days ago mother in law made me some. I hesitated at first because of fear. The fear of actually “LIKING” it and abandoning my good ole GAIN. I smelled it and it smelled SOO good (even though my brain tried to convince me it wasn’t GAIN)…. Crazy but I am a total texture girl. I LOVED the way it looked and the texture it presented to me. OK. I am buckling at this point… Am I really thinking about trying this stuff….. I had to. It just sat there saying:

I’m CHEAPERRR
I’m prettierrrrr
I’m HOMEMADEEEE

So I put a batch of clothes washing and “tested” this stuff that keeps popping up in front of my eyes. I went about my business doing other chores until my nose sniffed some ridiculously  awesome smell. “There’s no way”, I said. BUT WAY! I secretly got super duper excited and after taking out my first batch I scattered through the dirty clothes to gather ANOTHER load! I kid you not.

So I sit here. Ready to share with you an amazing way to save SOOO much money (don’t worry I will break it down) by making your own laundry detergent.

Ingredients:

I got my BORAX from Wal-Mart. I got lucky because someone must have known I was coming and put ALL of the ingredients I needed right next to each other. Thanks Wal-Mart for making my life amazing! This box was about 3 bucks. The Borax cleans, disinfects and softens the water.

These babies were only .99 cents each! Epic deal. The Fels Naptha Soap is a heavy duty laundry soap bar & stain remover.

This was around 3.49 for the box. Still liking this!!! Arm & Hammer Washing Soda works on grease and neutralizes odors.

Mother in law told me she added this to enhance the smell so I figured I would try a little bit of it. I think she used another ingredient but I can’t remember what. Our recipes are not exactly the same but I am pretty sure they do the same job!! This was around 4.60 but well worth it.

Get something you won’t use for cheese (((ever again))) hehe…I had an old grater so I figured I would add to everything else it has been through.

Start by grating your bars of soap. I will put the recipe at the bottom of this post but I grated 4 bars of soap and pouring in all of your ingredients  (recipe below) it will look like this!!!

So pretty right!!!

I made some for my dad and I had to think of something to put on it so he would ALWAYS know what it was!! (you know men, they never REALLY pay attention more than once)… So I grabbed some bright neon labels that I had.

I grabbed one of my Martha Stewart punches and punched out a little sucker!

Just bright enough for him to ALWAYS see! (and not too girly)

If you follow the recipe below you will have enough laundry soap to wash 110 or 200 bad loads of laundry.  Trust me, I scooped the whole batch to figure this out! Let me explain my numbers.
The recipe calls for 2 tablespoons per batch HOWEVER if you are washing a small load or if you don’t have a big washing machine I recommend using 1 tablespoon
So if you use 2 tables spoons for every batch then you will get 110 loads out of it!
If you use 1 table spoon then you will have 200 batches…. AMAZING RIGHT.
If you are like me then you will have some batches that are big and some small but either way it’s amazing how much you have here! Plus it’s all good for ya and full of natural ingredients!
Total price to purchase all the items to make my own detergent was around 14 bucks.
Homemade detergents do not have alot of  suds.   Don’t worry, this is normal and your clothes will still come out redokulousley clean.

Large Batch Recipe

4 – Bars Fels Naptha Laundry Soap
1 box of  – Cups Mule Team Borax
1 box Cups Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1 bottle of Purex Crystals

Grate soap using cheese grater. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir well. Place in sealed container or tub and measure out two tablespoons (or 1/8 cup) for each load. I put a medicine cup for my dads batch. Two scoops from that is 2 tablespoons. I know everyone has tons of those suckers laying around!

Smaller Batch Recipe

2 – Cups Laundry Soap Shavings
(you can get this easily from one bar)
1 – Cup Mule Team Borax
1 – Cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

Follow instructions for above recipe.

I sure hope you enjoyed this post and let me know how yours comes out!!

Sending you all sortsa good energy to wash every single piece of clothing in your house (like I did),

Target HAUL: What’s in your target bag!!!

I wanted to quickly get this post in before the day started. You know I LOVE “tar-jay”.  I feel like Walmart and Target are “fuh real” competitors now. For a while Wal-Mart had the best things ever! I walked in one day and thought I was in another store. Then I stepped into Target. I mean, it’s ridiculous. I just wanted to share a couple of things I bought because I believe they are worth sharing.

For example. This chevron print basket. Really Target, who are you? Whoever you are I like it!!!  They also have three other sizes of baskets. This is the smallest one!

Ok. I know I have blogged about this before but that’s how much I love this stuff. I don’t think I will EVER use anything else ever again. This stuff sings to me when I am washing my dishes, (no I don’t have a dish washer)….I never trusted those bad boys anyways. I mean, do they REALLY clean better than your hands???? OH, and they have some other scents you might enjoy like BASIL, GERANIUM, and LAVENDER.

Mrs. Meyers lemon verbena dish soap & hand soap

I love all products that have “ST.IVES” on them. I always blog about the Apricot scrub and then while scanning the shelves the angels made me look on a different shelf…That’s when I saw this. My pores were singing….

ST. IVES Green Tea Scrub. OK this stuff is 1. awesome and 2. smells redonkulously good. If I had so state a 3, it might be that I kinda (secretly) wondered if it tasted good.

These totally match the chevron print basket I got. I think I will do something special with these two babies. Not sure yet but I have a feeling you WILL know when I do it~ AND these babies were on SALE for .88 cents!!! What the!!!!

Now, these beautiful little suckers just made my eyes glimmer and my heart skip a beat. There is something about this color that I have ALWAYS loved. Maybe it makes me feel like I am in the tropics and I have all the windows open listening to Lana Del Rey….that simple.  I could not find the link to link back to these but they are in the section where you buy towels.

I “accidentally” ran across these suckers and I think I may have RAN walked in a orderly fashion to hurry and grab then, all while thinking in my head
“I hope they are my size, I hope they are my size”… they were. Thank you universe.

Who woulda ever thunk to make this. Whoever did I love them. I COULD NOT resist this! The possibilities are endless! You can make

Wilton Doughnut Pan – 6 Cavity

So I have looked and looked all over Target’s website for this candle but can’t find it. I really truly think it is NEW and that is why. IT IS A MUST HAVE. They are only around 11 dollars.
IT SMELLS LIKE RALPH LAUREN ROMANCE. I KID YOU NOT!
I just wanted to show you what I used my little chevron basket for. A cute basket for my new dish towels. I know, they are “bath” wash cloths but I like them for my kitchen.
Super crazy, but they look good wet!! paahahahaha
There you have it Jaderbugs!  A few things that you MUST go buy at TAR-JAY NOW!!! I also bought some red and turquoise chevron plates but forgot to take pictures. NOW, I am being lazy and figured I would just “tell” you about them.
Wishing Chevron gas was as cheap as these Chevron towels,

Martha’s Devil’s food CAKE and Betty Crocker Review!

Hey friends! It’s finally Saturday and I am so happy that I got to sleep in. Even though “sleeping in” only consists of sleeping till 7:30 {{{teeheheee}}}.

I woke up super early (kinda cussed at the universe for doing that for a quick second)… then felt all weird about doing that then thanked the UNIVERSE for letting me get all sleepy again. In case you didn’t hear me, “THANK YOU UNIVERSE”…

Now I am up and wanted to post this lovely cake before my lovely day starts!!!

I found this recipe and thought it would go great with this new product I had to test out!

Let’g get rolling since we are under a TORNADO watch and my electricity might go out in any second!!!

I am using Martha’s Moist Devil’s Food Cake, you can find it here!!!!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, plus more for pans
3/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder, plus more for pans
1/2 cup boiling water
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups sifted cake flour (not self-rising)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk

click HERE to get the directions.

I mixed all of my ingredients together as just like Martha did!!! (hehe) I used my Kitchen Aid mixer, check them out HERE.

I got this Betty Crocker gel mix to try and I finally used it! If you want some you can get it from Wal-Mart or you can order it HERE.

You want to squeeze the entire tube into you batter BEFORE you bake it! (epic fail if you don’t)

After you bake your cake let it cool and frost with whatever icing you like. I frosted the whole cake with whip cream and put it in the freezer. SOOO GOOD!!!

I cut up some walnuts and andes mints for my topping!

OH! Here is one of my plants I got for Valentines Day! Figured I would share with you since it is so delicate and pretty!

Serve with ice cream, I used BLUE BELL MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP. Are you drooling yet?

Yes friends, this is what my plate looked like AFTER this tornado got to it, hehe.

I hope you enjoyed this yummy tutorial and you HAVE to try this mint gel flavoring! SO GOOD!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and be safe if you are celebrating Mardi Gras!!!

LOT’S of LOVE,

If you are planning a Valentines surprise for your love one’s tonight well you still have time to make this! It is cheap and super easy.
If you want to decorate that steak you are cooking, “stake” it in that meat!! {{hahaha}}

Ingredients you will need are:

* Skewers which I bought from walmart and pom poms from Hobby Lobby. The name brand I bought is called “tree house studio”.

They come with 18 pom poms that are cute and shiny.

The bakers twine I used is from Martha Stewart’s line at Michael’s Arts and Crafts.

First thing you want to do is add some hot glue to your pom pom. I am using a dual temperature hot glue gun from Martha Stewart’s line of crafts.

After you add your hot glue to the pom pom you want to immediately put your bamboo skewer into it. I broke my skewers to make them a lot shorter!

When you are done tie a little piece of bakers twine to the skewer and voila! Your little nugget of food decor…

I wonder if anyone will really stick this into meat! HAHA

Sending you lot’s of steak love for your nice night,

This post is brought to you Plaid’s Martha Stewart line. I received product for this post. All opinions expressed are 100% mine. You can check out Plaid’s fullMartha Stewart product line here.

I had to share my excitement with you all! I fully understand it’s almost the end of January BUT Wal-Mart still has Christmas things ___ON SALE___! I surely thought they would have sold these babies already but I guess it has to do with luck. I have been to quite a few stores looking for Christmas supplies that are on SALE {{that’s the only way I can afford them hehe}}, and I hit the jackpot.   My collection NOW is amazing! I mean, each year I get all of the pretty ornaments that were SOOOO expensive and pay SOOOO little. It’s actually smart! Why am I telling you this Jaderbugs! Because I want you to go to any store that might sell Christmas supplies and see if they have any left that are on sale! Trust me if there is ANY left they will be on sale, they absolutely want to get rid of them!

Keep your mind open though, if you see some that you like but you don’t like the color get them because I am sure they will be like… 3 cents for the box by now. You can always spray paint them!

This is my recent splurge. ALL OF THIS JADERBUGS! Guess how much I paid for everything?

6 BUCKS!

Now don’t try to shop online at Wal-Mart because everything is the “normal” price. Can you believe I paid 6 bucks! That is a value meal at McDonalds! I will put Wal-Mart’s link HERE so you can find the one closest to you!

The big boxes have I think, 25 ornaments in each box and they typically would be around $9.98 a box! The colors are AMAZING! Looking forward to my bright and whimsical Christmas next year!

Excited about doing a lamp shade tutorial for you Jaderbugs today,
