Quote of the Day:
“Our hearts are broken, but they are beating, and they are beating stronger than ever.” -Rudolph Giuliani, New York City mayor.
9-11
It’s 4:39 am in the morning.
I am not quite sure why I am up right now. Maybe because I went to bed last night thinking looking at a note I have in my phone. It’s a note that I have been carrying over from phone to phone for many years now. It says:
9:55 am South tower falls
10:28 am North tower falls
Everyone in the world has their own memory of that day. Their own feelings. I try not to think of the negative feelings I felt that day and how scary it was. Even thought I remember that morning down to the candle I had burning in my house. It’s too crisp. I had a printable ready to post this morning for you, (a cute one yeah) and about an hour ago when I woke up I felt the urge to post about this. So it am. It’s not a tutorial. Just a memory that I am offering to share with my awesome Jaderbugs.
Just like the memories I have of that horrible day I also have another AMAZING memory. It’s a day I could not have planned better. Dad and I. New York. Making memories. Twin Towers. BONDING. Yes. Me and my dad went to the memorial site. I will let the pictures do the talking. My dad was in the service a long time ago. I remember before we walked up to the spot where you enter the site, dad looked at me and patted me on my shoulder then hugged me. He told me that he never thought he would ever come to this spot. It was an emotional day, but a good one. I believe it healed us both a little. I can’t even explain the energy there. It’s so overwhelming.
This picture is at the actual memorial site. You can see they are slowly rebuilding, because that’s what we do. Nothing can ever break what is so strong.
Dad found out in New York that he loved to take pictures. I remember sitting on a bench right by the tower that is coming back up and teaching my dad what buttons to press. I think everyday he had my camera around his neck. Lemme tell you he is good! What you can’t see in the lawn picture is the ONE tree that survived. It has a metal ring around it so nobody can touch it. That was pretty cool to see. When we were leaving dad wanted to take my picture. He said the background was so pretty and he wanted to have a mental picture of me in that moment. (insert tear). We stopped to get nuts and when we each ate one, they were hard as a rock. We just looked at each other and laughed. Oh, and they were around 13 bucks! haha
Later that day we went to the Empire state building. It was so different looking at New York from such a high place. Yep, dad had the camera the rest of the day. The city was in back of me and the building that has that big Y on top of it is the tower that is slowly going back up.
I hope you enjoyed coming to New York city with us! Make sure and come back tomorrow for a fun printable. You don’t want to miss it because it’s super cool!
See you in the next post Jaderbugs!
