Howdy Friends! I can’t believe it’s already November and Christmas is right around the corner. Seriously I feel like the older I get the faster things happen. I want to tell you something that you might not know about me… I LOVE Christmas so much that I am not even mad that I had to put my tree up in November. I have a small confession to make, I had my tree up in the middle of October. I know some might think that is a bit early but I wanted to take my time decorating my tree and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. If you didn’t see my Dream tree last year click HERE to check it out. This year I wanted to use a theme that I typically wouldn’t use. I love bright whimsical colors but something inside of me wanted a classic Christmas tree! The Dream Tree Challenge is something a lot of people look forward to seeing and trust me all of the Michael’s Makers can deliver trees on point!

This year we were sent a 7.5′ Pre-Lit Hartford Tree and I was very pleased with it. Once you pull apart the branches it is beautiful and full of white lights. From now until November 14 you can get FREE SHIPPING on all Christmas trees that are 6ft or taller on Michaels.com!!! I recommend this tree and on top of it you can get it for a great price!

dream tree challenge

This year I wanted a tree that represented the state I live in, Louisiana. How did I achieve this look? Well it’s easy I added elements that I felt represented a good ole Southern Belle! I added olive branches, gorgeous magnolia’s, glass glitter on frames, plaid ribbon, cotton balls and ton’s of other surprises.

Now I believe the key to a great looking tree is filling that baby up with ton’s of decor. I like to add chunky items in it along with small trinkets. Go big or go home, hehe!

The first thing I recommend before decorating your tree is checking all of your lights! The worst thing that could happen is you decorate your entire tree then plug it in and some lights are out. Right!!!!

If you have never decorated a tree before I suggest putting all of your ribbon up first. You want the ribbon to look like it’s part of the tree and that would be hard to do if you add your ornaments first. chalkboard christmas tree

I love the idea of putting chalk boards in my tree so you and your family can write notes on them. You can use these from Michaels or make your own.

Deer decorations

I fell in love with these glittered deer heads and when I saw them I knew they needed to be nestled in my tree. I used this one on the top of my tree. It’s cardboard but all I did was add white paint all over it then sprinkled glass glitter on the antlers.

TIP: Sprinkle the glass glitter on the antlers when the paint is still wet, it’s much easier that way.

diy christmas ornaments

I added some fun elements in my tree like the paper straws below. You can order them here. I added stickers to the top of them that say “cheers”.

When you are ready just stick them all over your tree.

diy paper straw

I used this beautiful plaid ribbon all over my tree. I felt it added the perfect amount of color and it made it feel very Southern!diy ribbon ornaments

To make these bouquets of ribbon I cut my ribbon into strips then put a bunch together. You can tie the ends with wire then stick them all over your tree. This trick is good for filling holes in your tree!easy christmas ornaments rustic plaid christmas tree

I purchased these black metal letters in the dollar bin and simply added white lines on them with a paint pen. Voila! plaid and stripes christmas I added a ton of Magnolia flowers in my tree. I wanted this flower to be the one thing that popped when you first looked at the tree. Let me tell you it POPS! magnolia christmas tree LOUISIANA CHRISTMAS I added white balls with french sayings written on them. Since I couldn’t find them already made I simply wrote on them with a sharpie marker. I love how they look mixed in with all of the other decorations.

White balls are hard to find but Michaels has them ready for all of us DIY’ERS! le jour de noel

I added 12 plaid boxes in my tree to put little gifts in for my family. We will do this countdown the 12 days before Christmas. Hopefully your kids won’t open all of them, haha!southern belle christmas Don’t be afraid to add big elements in your tree like cute stuffed dolls. You will be surprised at how they add flavor to your tree.
vintage doll christmas tree vintage christmas tree striped letters christmas tree I love decorating my gifts as much as I love decorating my tree. I believe it’s important to shower your presents with ton’s of love! Of course I have presents bought already so I just had to wrap them up and put them under our tree.
striped christmas I love the simplicity of empty frames in a tree. It adds depth while also looking elegant. Bathe the wooden frame with Mod Podge then sprinkle gold glass glitter on them.
southern christmas tree SOUTHERN CHRISMAS DECORI love that Michaels has striped paper, believe it or not, it’s hard to find. I always buy 20 or more rolls of black and white paper because I use this all year long for gifts. You can purchase them here and here.

Last but surely not least is Hannah our cat. I think she loves the tree more than us! Let’s just say I am glad she was on the ground when I was taking these pictures and not IN THE TREE like she normally is. I mean, it is her first Christmas so I will let her slide. cat in a christmas tree

The Simple Secret to decorating a tree!

No, not really but if you live in my “land” then it’s time to break out the egg nog and mistletoe. So with that being said I will graciously sit here in my cozy pajamas, half cold coffee and good music to give you a little blast of Christmas…Why? Because, WHY NOT!

I have to give a huge shout out to Michaels for giving me the opportunity to participate in yet another year of the dream tree challenge! It’s always fun plus it gives me a great excuse to break out my winter wonderland! I always try to do something different each year to test my limits and go out of my typical “colorful” comfort zone. Remember my woodsy tree last year…I seriously wanted to keep that baby up all year long but after 3 months of seeing it I couldn’t handle another month of it, haha!

This year I wanted clean and crisp and that is just what was delivered. I can’t lie, I walked out of Michaels with way too many ornaments this year but I can totally explain it.  When I saw all of the themed decor at the store I went into sensory overload and acted like the little girl on Willy Wonka who ate the blueberry gum. She just couldn’t help herself, as I couldn’t either. Let’s get to it!

project-ranking-format5

This year I came very close to setting up my tree in a different place (someone else’s home) because I just miss having a real tree in my home. Don’t get me wrong I love my faux tree but it’s not a real one and let’s face it when I spend this much time into a tree you can bet your bottom dollar I will not be taking it down to put up another one. Although I will admit I will be doing another tree soon for another brand so lord knows where I will stuff that baby.

Let’s enter into my faux winter wonderland…

dream-tree-challenge

I have to admit I started out with just white ornaments but somehow I ended up getting some rose gold and silver ornaments to pop into the tree. So I guess we can say it’s a bedazzled winter wonderland.

This year Michaels had some really unique balls in boxes (say that three times really fast) that are not actual ornaments. I think my favorite ones were these snow ball, balls. They stuck immediately to my wreath which I thought was very cool! diy-snow-balls

I made some cute deer ornaments that I fell completely in love with. I hot glued glittered deer antlers onto the top on an ornament then glued the ball onto a block of wood. Voila. Instant gratification. You can sit this babies onto a window ledge for some added decor. OH, another thing you can do is put them on top of a present. Boom. Done. snow-christmas-tree

This year Michaels had these beautiful snowflake pillows so you know I had to get ALL of them. Literally it’s not a joke. I bought all of them. But why? I ask myself that every time I get home with loads of stuff. I mean, I needed them for the pictures. glittered-pillows

This glittery ribbon opens up into a stream of “ooh’s and ahhh’sss”….  I can sit here and tell you I found myself trying to find anything to put this ribbon on just so I could pull it apart over and over. michaels-makers-tree

It’s always a must to add glittered pine cones to your tree or just placed under your tree as if nature naturally dropped them there, right. Get a plain pine cone, brush some glue onto the edges then sprinkle glitter on them till your heart falls out of your chest. Want to get real fancy, sprinkle some german glass glitter and really show off your fancy pants to your friends and family. You will have people lined up at your door begging you to decorate their pine cones. glittered-pine-cones

You can’t enjoy Christmas without a corner filled with faux sneaux balls and styrofoam deer. I mean we can’t leave out the pine cones, see you just throw them anywhere and you will instantly have a winter wonderland. Looking for a great way to dress up a live plant? Just put it in a cloth trash can. I know, genius. deer-christmas

snowball-decorations

Remember that wired ribbon. It kinda made it’s way onto a garland. What can I say it’s a stress reliever. garland-christmas-decor

I took all of my books out of this book shelf and gave these babies a home. Don’t worry they are just chilling here for the holidays. It actually took a LOT to take my books out but I again, I went out of my comfort zone for the babies. Round of applause. white-christmas

I love candles for the holidays. I love glittered candles for the holidays as well. Simply add some Mod Podge to the outside of a candle then drench with glitter. So simple yet so elegant. all-white-christmas

wish

An easy way to add some cheer to your space is throwing some white balls onto faux deer antlers. I know what you are thinking, you thought it was going to be an all white Christmas tree. It was supposed to be but I had to add a pop of color to my world. It was literally begging to go up! Now my soul feels complete.

The Simple Secret to decorating a small mantle!

With Christmas right around the corner I thought it would be a great time to show you some of the new home decor items available at Michaels.  I love decorating with bright whimsical colors and as you can see I went with just that this year!  I will show you how to decorate a tiny mantle, let’s go!

Santa’s MAKEshop is now open at Michaels!  From holiday décor to trimmings for your tree, you can find everything you need to make your holiday magical!

If you are wondering this is the first year I opted out of doing the Dream Tree Challenge for Michaels and I can’t lie it feels a little strange. Instead I wanted to showcase items that you can use in your personal space that still give off the magic of Christmas. Go all out this holiday season with a Winter Wonderland Tree, a Southern Belle Tree or a Pastel Tree.

You can always add DIY glittered candles to your decor to ass some pizazz. If you have left over candles you can turn them into this!

If you are interested in purchasing all of the items I used in my post online just click here and you can shop away in the comfort of your home!

This year I was really impressed with Michaels! The vintage items in the Jingle Jolly section blew me out of the water. The vintage home and car with the presents melted my heart. Typically I try to purge Christmas items however I will be keeping these for the long haul.

Still not sure what theme you want to do this season, here are a few Christmas ornament ideas that might inspire you.

Michaels has quite a few themes this season for you to choose from. They have Alpine Décor,Jingle Jolly WayFrosted ForestCostal Décor (limited stores and online) and Boho Décor (limited stores and online).

How cute are these miniature lights on the front of the vintage house. These bring me back instantly to my childhood for some odd reason.

Very seldom I want to keep up garlands all year round but I can promise you that these felt ones will stay up all year.

If buying garlands is out of your price point here is an easy way to make your own using cotton balls

Nothing feels more like Christmas than Vintage ornaments however check out these Ice Cream Cone Ornaments that I created a few years back.  You can’t go wrong with beautiful sequined ornaments either.  Can you believe I still have these.  See I don’t purge as well as I would like to think, haha!

I have a good quantity of real glass vintage ornaments from my Pop Stew that I cherish every holiday season.  It never fails they always make it into my decor each year.  The “faux” vintage ornaments are not made of glass but in person they look like they are.  The plastic ones are great since I don’t have to worry about them breaking!

Something that would look great on your mini mantle besides this cute car is DIY bottle brush trees and I have the perfect tutorial on how to dye them any color you want.  Can’t you just see this car in your head rolling down the streets in New York city?

Sadness overcomes me knowing that I will be taking all this down for another Christmas post.  Don’t fret I will merge it all together. There is no way I will opt out of these decorations this season!

Every season I put up banners and I fell in love with this MERRY one.

Impressed is what I am with the quality of them which means I can re-use them each year.

Stay tuned this week I will be showing you how I made my faux stacked wood!

I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did! See you in the next post, until then hugs from my computer to yours!

Nothing screams boho like transforming an old fish tank into an lovely cactus family. I love the look of this and I think it’s very clever. Make sure you find an old fish tank, the more rust the better. Who would of ever thought I would be recommending you search for all things rusty!

e41a9aed8ed71a4f1c7647b5280150deMacrame, period. On my last trip to Carmel Valley Ranch in California for the Michaels Makers summit we learned how to do macrame. I know you are prolly wondering how in the world I never knew how to do this by now. I guess I have no excuse, however now I do and I am in love. You can order one if you have no desire to learn the technique, but this is a must in your bohemian home! Make this dream catcher as well and you will “oooh and ahhh” all day and night!

Mix tons of patterns together to get an instant boho feel. I know, I know most of you might say “NO, I like everything to match”… Well as we all know that is a delightful way to live just not the BOHO way to live. The more mixed patterns you have in your space the better off you will be, trust me!

Now most of you will stash away all of your Christmas lights after he holidays, not us Boho humans. I think I have been keeping lights up all year long since I was a little girl. There is actually something more magical having lights up after the holidays than you could ever imagine. They add a magical aspect to ANY space you put them in, as you can see in the picture above! Make these and hang them by your lights and you have officially entered into boho territory!

Let’s be real, tapestries are mostly known for throwing on top of a bed but in the life of a Bohemian soul they are meant to be hung from any given space. With that being said I mean from your ceiling, on your walls, as curtains and frankly anything else you can think of…Don’t forget the goal is to NOT match them, haha!

skh11alsklingvardagsrumWhy not create a little nook in your home with different varieties of chairs that you can resort to when you need to center. This is also a great space to gather with friends or family!  If you are unsure about mixing chair designs just hit up some garage sales or estate sales, you will never be disappointed. Keep an open mind and try to visualize the look you are going for before saying no to chairs! You can always spray paint them, then distress them. These could be added to the table as well.

Good news! If nooks are not the thing for you then grab tons of vintage pillows for a “sunken” living room. Please tell me who would not love to let loose in this space! I love having a cozy spot to go to at the end of any crazy hectic day. Remember the bigger the pillows the better!

Let’s be real here y’all…If you are still a fan of cans of chemical air freshener then today this will change for you! No, really! Those things are so bad for you and if you ask me they prolly cause cancer. I love incense but I will tell you that if you are not a fan you can always choose a cleaner way of living by diffusing essential oils. Let me know if you are curious about Young Living Oils cause I got the hook up ( Just shoot me a message in the comments). Stash these around your incense to enhance the vibe.

You can’t live in a space without small glimpses of luxurious sheep skin rugs. Now the great thing about these rugs, they literally look great anywhere! I think my favorite is when they are used as seat cushions on clear see thru chairs…Let’s just say our dogs love our sheep skin so much that it’s impossible for the human nose to get near it… EPIC FAIL (bc it’s huge), moving on now.

Last but not least, the best way to make any space feel like peaches and cream is with an overabundance of fresh flowers. Preferably wild ones that are picked strait from the yard. I will say lately stores are starting to carry bigger varieties of unique flowers so you are not just stuck with generic roses. To make your flowers a little more bohemian you can throw them in old vintage bottles! By the way check out this easy way to make a flower crown in minutes!

Y’all it’s almost Christmas! Seriously I feel like I made these DIY Coffee Mugs a week ago. Welcome to my world! I can’t quite grasp Christmas this year. Maybe because it still sorta feels like Summer-ish / Fall-ish here in Louisiana. I mean come on mother nature, can you give us like 4 days of snow? It’s not too much to ask of you. I just want to wear some scarves for a few days without my neck getting hot.

Which brings me to the subject of why stores in Louisiana even sell scarves. However it’s quite funny when you go into a store here and a mannequin is dressed with a scarf and tank top.. Insert WTF here.

Speaking of Mannequins. Are you totally loving this new fad all over the internet where everyone stands still (minus the people who blink every now and then) and pretends life is at a dead stand still? I know I am. Shoot’s, it’s better than that whole “plank” fad that went around a few years ago. I think THIS ONE is my favorite so far. I mean you can be in the WORST mood ever and once you watch this you will wish there was more, or you will wish you were in that front row. Either way I bound and determined to do one and you can bet I will get creative. Stay tuned. I think my DIY Coffee Mugs would work perfectly in a mannequin challenge.

Today I wanted to share with you a really fun tutorial I did last year for I Love to Create. I am always down to wear an ugly sweater and I wanted to make sure my mugs had the change to do the same thing. Click on the link below for the FULL TUTORIAL.
DIY COFFEE MUG

I won’t give aways the deets but I will tell you that anyone can create fun mugs. These can be for yourself or for a friend. Either way they are the perfect gift! I will say that the ceramic markers below are by far the best I have ever used. No, I am not getting paid to say that (well technically I am but…) I am very serious.

These would look great next to your mugs!ugly-sweater-snowman-mug

Yep! They are safe to use once you are done. I thought I would add hearts to the bottom of my mugs so when their drink is all done they will have a heart felt surprise! How sweet huh! ♥

OH SNAP! I almost forgot to tell you about my Dream Tree Challenge for Michaels. Every year I am honored to create a beautiful tree and this year I went all out! Wondering what theme I went with? You hoping I tell you right now huh! NOPE, haha!
