The Simple Secret to Hand Painted Journals!

Happy Summertime y’all! Can’t believe it’s almost time for school to start! Is it just me or do you all feel like this summer has flew by like a bird chasing a worm, haha! Doesn’t the early bird get the worm?! I remember as a kid being so excited to start a new school year. Me and my mom would go to the local store and check everyday for the supply list to come out. Was I the only one excited about this little sheet of paper?

Now let’s fast forward a little because back when I was a little.  Lisa Frank was in style, you know the “good ole days”… These day’s things just feel so generic and don’t get me wrong I love basic colors and styles however this day and age DIY is the way to go… There is nothing more meaningful than creating something yourself and sporting your own unique style.

Today I will show you an easy way to turn a basic journal into a work of ART ♥

Blank Canvas Notebook | Tulip Fabric Markers | Painters Tape

You can order all of these products from Michaels by clicking on the links above! If you know anything about what I love then you already know how much I LOVE Tulip fabric markers. You can use these on so many different products and create amazing designs. Check out other things I created HERE. Let’s also talk about how wonderful the color selection is! I mean, there is like four different shades of each color! Swoon 101!

Step One: Make sure your canvas journal is completely clean then use the painters tape to create your design. I am sticking to geometric designs for this post. Sometimes less chaos is better believe it or not!

Step Two: Get the fabric marker color you want and go to town! I am doing lines for all of my journals because I think it’s very modern, clean and crisp. I love that these would also look amazing on your dining room table stacked with other books.

Step Three: Admire what you just created! Insert huge laugh right about now!

Step Four: After letting your markers dry into the canvas for about 10-15 minutes gently peel off your tape. If you are using painters tape it will peel off really easy! What are you left with? Well, beautiful crisp lines that will make your heart pound for days!

The great thing about this project is you can give a journal with a pack of fabric markers to someone as a gift and they can create something special that they will remember forever.

I am repeating the same steps but doing a different design! What’s great is you can even overlay designs with the tape. It’s the best project to show off your creativity.

I am totally digging all of these wonderful colors! For me when I see bright colors it just instantly makes me feel better inside and I am sure it will do the same for you!

There are so many different things you can do with a blank canvas… If you want you can write your favorite quote on it or you can freehand a special drawing, the possibilities are endless!

I even used some very thin tape to get a different look. Mix and match with thin tape and thick tape it’s all up to you!

If you notice below I drew lines completely over the tape to create one long line only because I know when I remove the tape I will have a white line where my tape is.

Don’t forget to mix and match your colors because they blend really nicely together.

When I tell you pulling this tape off in the end is my favorite part… It’s like heaven to my fingers. Not even joking!

l like to use black as a accent color! It just adds a little BANG to the colors.

With over 800 new styles of craft paint, Michaels has more paints for more surfaces! Check out some of their new finishes including ultra-metallic & watercolor and get started on your next DIY!

Remember my Fairy Gardens I made? Click HERE to see them, trust me you don’t want to miss them! I have these babies all over my house and they just bring me so much peace and happiness.

I hope you enjoyed this project because I sure had fun making it! Sheesh I already gave away two of my journals… Wonder what I should do with the last one! Maybe I will keep it for myself!  Hugs from my computer to yours, I LOVE YOU!

The Simple Secret to making faux flowers come to life!

Today I will show you how to DIY with Faux Flowers. Whether you’re looking for fun décor, bright blooms, or cute party supplies, Michaels has everything you need to MAKE summer fun! If you follow me on any of my social media outlets you will notice that I take lot’s of flower pictures. I don’t know but I just get some kinda joy when I see something beautiful blooming strangely out of the ground.

This month’s Michaels Makers challenge is completely based around faux (fake) flowers. Now I know what you are thinking… I am “so” not a fake flower person because I was saying the same thing until I had the chance to gawk over the realistic flowers at Michaels. I also grabbed a few items from the store as well to make my flowers feel at home. You won’t believe the awesome items for Summer decor that are in the stores now. Who’s ready to check it all out!

Now before we begin I want to tell you that one thing I love about faux flowers is if you can purchase some that look really real then you can spread them out all over your space and things will look fresh as all get out all year long. Don’t worry that is what I plan on doing with mine! Yes I purchased this cute blue and white vase at Michaels a well!

Summer is right around the corner and let’s face it we all travel a lot which means if you have real flowers out then most likely they will be dead and gone when you get home. One good thing about these faux tulips is they will live forever, hehe… alongside these beautiful wild flowers. Are you also digging this stellar vase as well! Between me and you blue and white goes with any decor so get out and grab you some!

I love these end tables Michaels is carrying, which come in a ton of colors. The orange just stuck out to me so I had to have it, plus I love the pattern. Way to go Michaels.

The great thing about wild flower bouquets is you can snip off a few of the flowers and add them to little vases for a modern look. Small vases look great around bathtubs, kitchen sinks and in bathrooms.

If you are smart you are already in your car driving to Michaels! Listen you have to grab these flowers before they run out. Also, they have a large variety of string lights which look good around anything. I won’t lie, as soon as I took these pictures I strung these lights over my bed… SWOON!

Are you drooling over these delicate pink flowers yet?
Remember this project I did last month for Michaels? If you have not seen it  you must check it out, it might give you some more faux inspiration.  I hope you enjoyed learning a few simple ways to incorporate faux flowers into your life. Make sure to follow my on my social media outlets to see all the fun and creative things I am doing!

Nothing screams boho like transforming an old fish tank into an lovely cactus family. I love the look of this and I think it’s very clever. Make sure you find an old fish tank, the more rust the better. Who would of ever thought I would be recommending you search for all things rusty!

e41a9aed8ed71a4f1c7647b5280150deMacrame, period. On my last trip to Carmel Valley Ranch in California for the Michaels Makers summit we learned how to do macrame. I know you are prolly wondering how in the world I never knew how to do this by now. I guess I have no excuse, however now I do and I am in love. You can order one if you have no desire to learn the technique, but this is a must in your bohemian home! Make this dream catcher as well and you will “oooh and ahhh” all day and night!

Mix tons of patterns together to get an instant boho feel. I know, I know most of you might say “NO, I like everything to match”… Well as we all know that is a delightful way to live just not the BOHO way to live. The more mixed patterns you have in your space the better off you will be, trust me!

Now most of you will stash away all of your Christmas lights after he holidays, not us Boho humans. I think I have been keeping lights up all year long since I was a little girl. There is actually something more magical having lights up after the holidays than you could ever imagine. They add a magical aspect to ANY space you put them in, as you can see in the picture above! Make these and hang them by your lights and you have officially entered into boho territory!

Let’s be real, tapestries are mostly known for throwing on top of a bed but in the life of a Bohemian soul they are meant to be hung from any given space. With that being said I mean from your ceiling, on your walls, as curtains and frankly anything else you can think of…Don’t forget the goal is to NOT match them, haha!

skh11alsklingvardagsrumWhy not create a little nook in your home with different varieties of chairs that you can resort to when you need to center. This is also a great space to gather with friends or family!  If you are unsure about mixing chair designs just hit up some garage sales or estate sales, you will never be disappointed. Keep an open mind and try to visualize the look you are going for before saying no to chairs! You can always spray paint them, then distress them. These could be added to the table as well.

Good news! If nooks are not the thing for you then grab tons of vintage pillows for a “sunken” living room. Please tell me who would not love to let loose in this space! I love having a cozy spot to go to at the end of any crazy hectic day. Remember the bigger the pillows the better!

Let’s be real here y’all…If you are still a fan of cans of chemical air freshener then today this will change for you! No, really! Those things are so bad for you and if you ask me they prolly cause cancer. I love incense but I will tell you that if you are not a fan you can always choose a cleaner way of living by diffusing essential oils. Let me know if you are curious about Young Living Oils cause I got the hook up ( Just shoot me a message in the comments). Stash these around your incense to enhance the vibe.

You can’t live in a space without small glimpses of luxurious sheep skin rugs. Now the great thing about these rugs, they literally look great anywhere! I think my favorite is when they are used as seat cushions on clear see thru chairs…Let’s just say our dogs love our sheep skin so much that it’s impossible for the human nose to get near it… EPIC FAIL (bc it’s huge), moving on now.

Last but not least, the best way to make any space feel like peaches and cream is with an overabundance of fresh flowers. Preferably wild ones that are picked strait from the yard. I will say lately stores are starting to carry bigger varieties of unique flowers so you are not just stuck with generic roses. To make your flowers a little more bohemian you can throw them in old vintage bottles! By the way check out this easy way to make a flower crown in minutes!

I absolutely thought it would be fun to create an organized rolling paint/craft station. Sometimes we think we have to have the perfect space in order to create when in reality you can have something like this and tuck it away in a closet when you are not using it.

rolling painter station

I purchased a few baskets from Michaels that I could put on my rolling cart that was also purchased from Michaels! They have them in other colors but when I saw this tiffany blue my heart skipped a beat and I knew I found my soul mate.  I am especially in love with this hand carrying tin that I have stored all of my brushes in. You will not believe how convenient this is!

Make a fresh start in the new year and plan for a great 2017! Michaels has a huge selection of planners as well as all of the accessories you need to personalize your own. I live by my planner and would be lost without it!

how to store acrylic paint

It’s necessary to store your paints in a place where they look pretty but also easily accessible. I like storing my bottles of paint upside down so I can always see the colors. Did I mention how beautiful they look as well!
how to store brushes

I have to admit it, I have a thing for brushes. There is never enough brushes in my home also so this cart makes it easy to find the ones I am specifically looking for.

I usually have tons of little cans spaced out all over the house and brushes become that “snake in the grass” that you can never find but is staring right at you. So I bow down to you Michaels for this carrying tin container. You will forever own my heart for this little guy.

rolling cart

If you are like me then you want to display your art supplies. Michaels has so many varieties of baskets and tins to ensure you find one that fits your style and personality. I am totally digging anything gold lately so I was quite shocked to find these lovely babies.  Plus I like that I can see through the containers, this makes it easy when I am looking for a specific item.  painterAm I the only one who is in LOVE with a painters pallet? I have tons of them and a few I am thinking about framing. They have years and years of paint on them and have become their own art piece. michaels makers

I did mention that I created a portable paint station right… Well look at your girl here in her driveway pretending to paint just to get good pictures, haha. Can we just talk about how many people slowed down while I had all this out for 5 seconds. The mail lady said, “Girl you did that, you are the bomb”. I said haha, funny you say that. Get it, Jaderbomb. Yes, I did paint this.
