ST_12_months_of_Martha_Logo-1Hand Painted Cork Board
Today’s 12 months of Martha posts is super easy and I know anyone can do it with a little bit of love, joy and patience. I always find joy taking something and adding my own personal touch to it. Whether it’s a design I like or my favorite colors. Yes, it might take a little more effort but in the end it’s worth it. You will be surprised how good you will feel to make your own Hand Painted Cork Board!

Holy cow! It’s almost time for all the lil ones and big ones to go back to school. Are you as excited as me? Insert a crooked smile here.

I think I am excited to get a routine back because let’s face it the summer knocks everything out of whack and things tend to get a little nuts. I went school shopping with my lil one (14, don’t tell him I said lil one) and I realized at the register that most of the “supplies” in the basket were for me. I think I get more excited about “back to school” supplies than him!

Supplies:
*Ruler
*Craft Paint
*Craft Brush
*Cork BoardsDSC_0287

It’s time to kick off going back to school and what better way to do that than with some awesome home / office decor. I know what you are thinking, ” I can totally go buy some from the store, yo”… but why go buy something when you can DIY!

I am in love with the colors I am using in today’s project! They are soft pastel colors that will create a nice feeling in any room.

The colors I used: Poodle Skirt | Camellia Pink | Party Streamer | Wild Salmon | Yellow Jacket. DSC_0282Step ONE: Get out your cork board and lay it on a flat surface.

Step TWO: Get your ruler and mark 1.5″ dot’s with your chalk board marker or a light colored pencil. Do this all the way across the bottom of your cork board, on both sides. DSC_0285

Step THREE: When you are done with your dots connect them from one end to the other. You are creating lines on your cork board.

DSC_0286Step FOUR: This is what it should look like when you are done.
DSC_0298Step FIVE: Take your ruler and create angled lines in each section starting at the top and working your way to the bottom.

Step SIX: The first section your lines will go downward then the next section you will make your lines go in the opposite direction. You will be creating a “chevron” appearance. DSC_0300 DSC_0302

DSC_0303I am loving these colors! This alone is ART!DSC_0308Step SEVEN: Start painting each section with your paint. I will tell you when you use a dark cork board like I am using you might have to put two or three coats of paint, depending on how opaque you want it. DSC_0314

I am very pleased with the way they turned out. I created one board with the entire board painted and the other one I allowed some brown pieces to come through. I thought each look came out completely different and gave off a different vibe. DSC_0113DSC_0122

What is better than a nice bundle of sweet cotton candy? Welp, I will tell ya! Learning how to make Earrings

Cork and Wire Earrings, y’all! What? You didn’t know this was the new thing for 2056?

These day’s corks are used for many crafty creations. Sometimes things you use in your daily life can quickly become a fashion statement if you simply use your imagination. Did you ever think you would use corks to make earrings? I sure did.  Let me show you how easy it is to make them.

The first thing we need to do is create our circles. I used a paint bottle and tube of glitter to create my circles. howtomakecorkearringscorkearringdiy1. Grab a good pair of scissors and cut your cork.
2. Create different sizes.
3. Start wrapping your cork circle with wire. I used gold, duh!
4. The amount of wire you use is up to you. I like to go big so you can barely see cork, hehe.
5. Grab a jump ring and attach it to the wire.
6. Attach them all together.

(insert blood, sweat, burns, tears, eye rolls and maybe a few ugly words here)

Yes, our cabinets have chalk paint on them. Check out how we did that here.

One might encounter some of these these things while covering a wall with wine corks. A friend had bags full and gave them to me SCORE!!!!!!

I posted sometime last week the hot mess going on in our kitchen. Remember? Check it out here. When the dad’s put our new cabinets in they were  lower than our old ones.  The wall behind the sink was a hot mess when we were done with the installation so we were gonna put glass or tiles until I had a Jaderbomb moment.

CORKS!!! CORK BACKSPLASH!

Ashy just looked at me with this weird stank eye and then her eyes got big and she said “I LOVE IT”….
{{I was worried for a hot minute}}

Let’s get started. You will need corks (alot), glue gun(s) and lot’s of glue sticks! You can do like me and plug in 3 glue guns!!!! I think that is where I started to insert the burns and bad words. It seemed like every 3 minutes I would lean over and burn my arms. HAHA.It was the best time ever!!!

See the wall. UGLY!

I have the three glue guns all plugged and ready to be overworked!!!

First thing you will do is hot glue four corks together like this!

The picture to the right is me holding two “sticks” together. They are not glued together. Hot glue is the best thing to use for this because it dries really quick.

So you will glue 4 together. Put a long line of hot glue on the back of all 4. Then stick it on your wall. I started from the bottom and made my way up. I also did play around before to have an idea of how many rows I would need to make it to the top. See the thing is with corks is they are all different sizes. So when you get to the end you might have more space at the top in some spots and other spots might be perfect. If you don’t want to glue 4 together, you can glue ONE on at a time on the wall. Phew, good luck! But play around with the corks because sometimes moving them around will make them fit better.

TAKE YOUR TIME!

You really want to try your best to have STRAIT lines. That will make it look clean and crisp in the end.

HAHA!!!! Check out this post on what I use to clean my dishes! It is truly the BEST!

Don’t forget to come back for the COMPLETE reveal! Believe it or not there is MUCH more!!!!  We actually kept the top part of the cabinets because they are REALLY old and we just love them!

There ya have it, and instand cork board! Until next time…

Make it a DIY kinda day,

Jade

Hola! Jaderbomb here showing you how to make aTerra Cotta Coaster. Seriously I can’t stop. I actually gave all of these away already but that is because I love to give things I make to my friends! I finally got to meet Aunt Peaches (if you don’t know her you must click the link to the left). She got a few of them. I wonder what she is putting in them…. Let me know in the comment section what you think.

So it’s already time for school. I don’t know about you but I am super excited. I’m so excited I almost bought myself school uniforms to wear to the studio. Don’t get me wrong, I love when lil one is home over the break BUT I also love when he goes back to school. I think he is ready as well.  I think it’s smart when kids make back to school gifts for their teachers. It’s a nice way to suck up, plus you want to get your kids on that teacher’s good side, right?!?!?

Check out this cool Back to School gift that is quick and easy to make. I also did a Back to School haul on products that will make your life easier once school starts!

I simply love how easy it was to make these coasters and you can use them for so many things.
*soap in them

You can pretty much go to bed in them if you want! Wanna see how I made them, let’s go!
terra cotta coaster diy

You will need: Terra cotta dish | Tim Holtz word stickers | Chalk Paint | Brush | Mod Podge | Ice Resin | Love

tim holtz stickersNo lie, I fell in love with these stickers the second my hazel eyes saw them. I really had no idea what I would use them for but I knew I would use them for something. I keep a journal on me 24-7 so I knew I could use them in there as well!

inpirational stickers

The first thing you want to do is paint your terra cotta saucers. I like white for everything. It feel clean and crisp. I just painted our bedroom so stay tuned for a blog post showing you how it came out!paint with chalk paintOnce your paint is dry, place the stickers that you like in the center of the saucer. I had no idea what mine would say I just peeled off the ones that I liked!

terra cotta giftsWhen you are done with your stickers apply a coat of Mod Podge to them.

mod podge projects

When they are dry, cut out some circles out of a cork board then hot glue them to the bottom. This will protect things you put them on. Hey, they also sell bags of round corks so that is a better option. mod podge craftsWe will now coat the inside of saucer with Ice Resin. I am in love with this product. For one the way it is packaged, it makes it easy to use just what you need and save the rest for a later date.

ice resin projectsSquirt each side at the same time so equal amounts come out. I am using a glass candle holder that I only use for Resin.

Tip: If you don’t use the whole amount add some glitter inside the candle holder, mix and let dry. Eventually you will fill the whole thing with resin and it will be so cool to look at!

how to use ice resin

Once you mix the resin thoroughly pour some in the saucer and move it around so it coats the center of saucer. Place on a flat surface to dry. It’s that simple!

resin projectsI am SO in love with them. Like I said earlier I gave them all away except the one below. This one was for my honey ♥
