Southern Living: The South’s TASTIEST TOWN AWARDS

OK everyone, Southern Living is giving different cities in the SOUTH a chance to win the title of “The South’s tastiest town” award.  Wanna know the best thing of all? Lafayette Louisiana is in FIRST PLACE right now! Louisville is right below us but with your vote we can stay on top!

Click on the picture that says VOTE Lafayette to go vote!

Here’s why Lafayette earned its ranking as one of the 10 Tastiest Towns in the South:

There are plenty of new reasons to linger in Lafayette. A new batch of homegrown chefs is delving deep into the region’s robust culinary roots, with stellar takes on Acadiana classics. Consider The French Press, where the vibe is hip vintage and the must-have dish is Sweet Baby Breesus (slider-size biscuits filled with bacon, fried boudin, and Steen’s cane syrup).

At Johnson’s Boucanière, Lori Walls serves homemade smoked meat and boudin, just like her parents did at their store in Eunice, Louisiana. Then there’s homecoming king Donald Link, who just opened his second Cochon here, Cochon Lafayette.

Cast your vote daily from December 22 through January 31 and you’ll help name The South’s Tastiest Town to be announced in the April issue of Southern Living magazine. Plus, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $2,500 cash prize for a trip to any Tasty Town of your choice. How cool would that be!

Let me know what you think about this! Do you think your town should have been on the list? If so tell me why! If you have EVER been to Lafayette tell me what was the best think you ever ate!  I can’t wait to see who wins! Don’t forget to click on the links to check these awesome places out!

MY TOP 10 of 2011

Can you believe it’s almost 2012. I think it kinda freaks me out a little. I remember 2000 like it was yesterday. Remember how everyone thought the end of the world was gonna take place in 2000. I never believed all of that. Maybe it is the way the human mind thinks. I am actually SO READY for 2012. I KNOW this coming year will be so much better than 2011. I am so excited for the fun and exciting things coming up!  This year is already starting off amazing but that’s ONLY because I make every situation in my life positive. Nothing is meant to take over us, but you have to remember that.  It can be very hard at times but you HAVE to know that you are better than what ANYONE thinks of you!  I actually love wifey’s quote “WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS”. Don’t you just love that!  What about the SAINTS! I am so very proud to be from LOUISIANA, lemme tell ya! I can’t wait for them to win the SUPERBOWL again.
Let’s take a look at my top 10 posts of 2011~ Remember these are all based on my viewers and going over all of my statistics!

Things-for-new-years

Top 10 things you need to ring in the NEW YEAR!

If you ever wondered what you should wear for a “re-donk-ulous”  party then you have to keep reading this blog post! I put together a little set of things that ANYONE can pull off for this BIG party coming up!

* A black turtleneck looks great on everyone, plus black is slenderizing.

* Sequin dress shorts will surely make you stand out, and they make your legs look long when you put them with high heels

* Bright pumps! Find a color that you really like because this will be the “item” to make your whole outfit!

* Bright clutches will look like bright sparkles in your hands. For sure a show stopper!

* Have fun with bangles! The more you add the better your wrist will look {trust me}

* Fake black glasses, unless you really wear them then you can buy some Ray Bans that look like this!

* If you haven’t heard of NARS now is the time! LE-GIT-NESS is all I am saying!

* More NARS~ This lipstick is fabulous! Make sure you get the color “carthage”

* I mean, we can’t forget about nails right. Grab a bold “matte” color and slap on some glitter over it. Just think how good your hands will look holding a mug of beer, (haha) or WINEEEEEEEEEE. { I just said that in a longggg deeppp voiceeee, I think you should too!}

I hope all of these things make your night a lil more fun! Don’t forget to smile, hug and make grand memories because in the end NOBODY can take memories.

*here is a lovely photo from a recent photo shoot with seester, isn’t she just so beautiful*

Red-Velvet-Cake-Balls

Red Velvet Cake Balls – RECIPE

Oh my, CHRISTMAS pie! I hope everyone is sitting all warm (inside of your soul) and cozy with loved ones and laughing and giggling about anything and everything. At-least that is what I WISH! I know today might not have been the best day ever but guess what….even the worst day is great at long as you look at what you HAVE and not what you DON’T have….Right!

I have been melting into the heart’s of my loved ones, that is why I sorta been missing for the last couple of days. But get ready for the new year because I have LOT’S of awesome and fun things coming to you. Can you believe it’s almost 2012…. WHAT THUH!!!!

2012

I seriously feel like I have gained like a billion pounds in the last couple of days eating food over and over and over again. Did I mention SWEETS! Seester and I have been baking and cooking SO much it’s crazy! I never realized how much fun rolling cake around in my hands were! Going get cozy in my cozy chair in my cozy house.

RED VELVET CAKE BALLS

You can absolutely use a cake mix (in a box) for this or make a homemade cake. Either way is YUMMY!!!

Get some baking chocolate. I like this kind but you can use ANY kind you like. {I think ANY chocolate would be good, right!}

You will need a tub of  *Creamy Home-Style Cream Cheese*

The fun part is picking out all of the fun things that will go on top of them. I liked the GOLD because it reminds me of NEW YEAR’S!!! (plus, I love GOLD)

We just had to get *red and gold* since it was the holidays! I love bright and bold colors but there is NOTHING like RED and GREEN. These two colors bring me right back to being a kid.

Get three eggs ( I use the LARGE ones)

Pour the cake mix into a bowl

Add your eggs and oil into the cake mix. Just put however much oil the box says to put

Get a baking dish ( I love using glass)

After you bake your cake crumble the ENTIRE cake into a bowl {use your hands, they work BEST} and then add your cream cheese frosting into the cake mix

Make sure after you mix the cream cheese and cake together you place it in the freezer for a little while to make the mix a little harder (trust me, it makes it SOOOOO much easier to roll balls)

Melt your chocolate in a bowl and while it’s really hot dip your cake balls into it

While they are wet sprinkle them with your sprinkles {{this is my FAV-O-RIT part}}

I must say these babies are so pretty I don’t even want to eat them, even though I did! I hope everyone is full of food, love, laughter and happiness tonight!

Sending you cake that was made with loving hands,

DIY: Last minute Christmas GIFT!

DIY: Last minute Christmas GIFT!

Have you ever searched far and low for that perfect decorative hand towel to hang in your kitchen or give as a gift for Christmas? I know I have! Instead of settling for the same old dish towel that everyone else buys, I figured I would show you how to make a fashionable one that is unique and special. So hold on to your reins because your about to take a ride on a holiday horse!

Southern Houndstooth Holly Berry Dish Towel

Ingredients you will need are:
~1 9/11 sheet of Houndstooth felt (Hobby Lobby $1.50)
~Linen Napkin ( You can get these at your local craft store)
~You could also use any material for this project
~Fusible Webbing
First thing you will do is turn your houndstooth sheet over so your “good” side is facing down. Once you do this you will take a magic marker and free hand or trace the design you want.

When done, lay them out the way you want and make sure everything is cut out like it should be!

You can use a marker or a sewing pencil to trace the templates onto the fusible webbing, which is a material that bonds fabrics together. Make sure you follow the directions because fusible webbing has different directions.
Place fusible webbing between your felt and linen napkin; iron according to webbing directions.

VOILA!!!!!
See, I knew you would love it! Just think if you did one with someone’s last name on it! That woud be SO different and special!

Make sure and take pictures of your’s and put them on my Facebook page!!!
I had so much fun making this cute and whimsical last minute gift! Don’t forget to use your imagination because that is what makes {{home-made}} gifts so special!

DIY: Nail Polish Decorations

HIIIIIII all my Jaderbugs!!!! Can you believe it’s 6 days till CHRISTMAS! I wish Santa had a cellphone so I could call him and ask him if he can push Christmas back a week. Shoot’s, I wonder if he would. I mean, I have been a GREAT girl this year..I think he would fulfill my request. Although he might just ask me to help him make toys in return. Ok. I’m good with 6 days.

I saw a nail tutorial on making nails using this technique and I though it would be really cool if we could make ornaments using the same technique. I’m happy and not happy with the way they turned out! I wished I would have used a bigger cup so it would of coated the mug just a littttte bit more. In the end, they came out so CUTE!

When you are doing this craft you sorta feel like a magician because the nail polish just STICKS to the glass immediately.

Get a mug just a little bit bigger than whatever you will be sticking in it.

Get your ornament ( I just used a glass one that was already on my tree) HaHa

Get your nail polish out. I tried SOOOO many different name brands but ORLY works the BEST for this craft. Revlon is my 2nd favorite.

Drop a little bit of nail polish into the water, this is what it will do.

Drop different colors of nail polish into the water.

Then dip your glass ball into the mug. You don’t have to press too hard because as soon as the glass touches the nail paint it will stick SO QUICKLY! It’s bloody amazing!

Check out this design!

See! So pretty!!!!!

I grabbed some of my Martha Stewart tinsel glitter and shook some inside of the ornaments.

You have to be in love as much as I am in love with these babies! You better get dozens of glass ornaments because this craft is absolutely addicting!!!

Watching “knocked up” and laughing my behind off,

Chicken fried steak, wait it’s noodles in WIENERS!!!

Have you ever had to beg your kids to eat? Does food get BORING? Well if so then you are in the right place! It’s like magic aliens came down and invented this. It’s really so freaky and so freaking cool at the same time! Did you ever think it was possible!

It was the funniest thing when me and my sista from another mista did these babies! I can’t lie. It felt weird pushing the “raw” noodles through the wieners. I’m not sure if it was the texture freaking me out or the fact that they looked so crazy. Sista from another mister laughed the entire time and so what should of took 10 minutes to make them took about 45 minutes. I think the most important thing is we had fun and our bellies hurt after “TRYING” all of them in the end. You know how that goes. You just have to keep eating to make sure 100 percent that they ARE good. When we realized there was none left (insert crooked lip and stank eye) we just watched toddlers and tiara’s. Let’s get started because I’m sure some kid out there NEEDS to make this.

You will need wieners, uncooked spagetti noodles and a pot with water.

Make sure you cut them all up into little pieces. Then you will stick your raw noodles through the wieners

Seriously. This is gross looking. HAHA

I used SLAP YA MOMMA to season my water… SO GOOD! Click here to order some!

I am still not sure if I love them or not. They are sooo good with spagetti sauce! I hope you enjoy making these awesome/scary looking babies!

Lot’s of noodles to hug you forever!

Dreaming of sugar plums, orange mist and vampires

Sometimes I wonder about a lot of things. Like oranges. Why do they spray a mist if you squeeze them? I swear it’s the best thing ever! Plus it smells like crazy good! I filmed a video tonight in my car because I had to tell you something and when I went to view it… NOT THERE. I totally looked like a fool driving and “thinking” I was filming only to find out that I wasn’t! Haha. I think a couple of cars passed me and prolly thought “what in the world is this wanna be vampire doing”… Oh wait you didn’t know I was a vampire. (fine.i’m human). BUT I really wanted to tell you that I finally saw Breaking Dawn and I am even more in love.

I didn’t think Edward could get any hotter until he stepped off of that boat in “BEACH” clothes. I seriously just looked at Ashy and opened my mouth. She laughed. Then I shook my head. I am kinda mad though. WHY in the JOLLY GREEN GIANT would they split this book into two movies. Seriously. I would like to meet whoever decided to do that. It’s like a really bad vampire breakup. I get mad at the blood suckers when I have to wait too long, then I watch the movie over and all of a sudden they are off of the hook. But only for a moment. I figured I would take the color out of these awesome pictures I found hiding in my album. Bring a little darkness to these suckers. I am so in love with them because they all have awesome memories tied to them.

I hope everyone is ready and prepared (sorta haha) for Christmas! I am SO not ready but I will be ready for the registar war in the AM!

Feeling even more vampire-ishy and I wanna be Bella (just for 10 min),

OREO PUFFS!!!

Howdy Hoo Jaderbugs! It is ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! Can you believe it!!!! I can’t believe it…(haha)  Now I totally get when my parents used to say “it goes by so fast you almost miss it”. I love this season though. Watching movies {{of course Christmas ones}}, drinking warm drinks that make your belly feel nice and cozy, wrapping presents, listening to fun jazzy Christmas music and BAKING. I don’t know if you remember the peppermint popcorn I posted the other day. If you have not seen it click HERE to get to it! They came out SOOO good! I brought some to my Dr’s office today because they are so awesome and they deserve a nice treat (with a coke). They all loved them and loved the fact that they were pink. Remember if you want them to be a certain color all you have to do is put a little food coloring in the melted almond bark. Just think, green, yellow, blue or purple popcorn. EEEKKK I am getting excited all over again.

You will need: Peppermints, Oreo’s, half a pack of Almond Bark and 2 bags of Popcorn.

I got the Oreo’s with red cream in the inside! Makes it a little more festive! Make sure you put your peppermints in the processor to get them into a powder form.

First I chopped my oreo’s up with a knife then put them through a food processor to really crush them up.  Melt your almond bark and pour a little over the popcorn and sprinkle with oreos and crushed peppermints.

Lay it all out on a piece of wax paper and there you have it jaderbugs!

Some GOOD OLE OREO PUFFS! Boy do they taste YUMMERS! If you want to call them something else you can because I just made up putting oreos in it and came up with that funky name!

I hope you have fun making yummy and fun treats for all of the people you love,

JaderBUGS! I can’t wait till you get to eat this fluffy peppermint popcorn. When I started to make this I though “Hmmmm this might just be TOO sweet”… and then when it hit my mouth. I.Was.Wrong. It totally sent my mouth into PANIC attack. I have to warn you though, if you taste it when it’s still wet it will not taste like it is supposed to. You totally have to let it set till dry. I had so much fun making this because I love being able to use my hands to mix things instead of big spoons or mixers. You get to feel all of the {{gooeyness}} and then you have NO choice but to lick ALL of your fingers…Let’s get started before I drool on my computer!

You will need popcorn, peppermints and almond bark.

Pop your popcorn and place them in a bowl (this is the bowl you will be mixing everything in) and then you need to crush your peppermints. I used a food processor and it was like MAGIC!

SEE. MAGIC. It turned it into a powder form. Did I tell you how GOOD this powder was? Just think you could put this over ice-cream… YUMMERS.

Yummmmm…. I swear I didn’t eat all of it!! (just some of it).

After you pop your popcorn and crush your peppermints you will need to melt your almond bark. I always cut my bark into little pieces because it melt’s a lot faster and prevents you from burning it. Trust me I have burnt ENOUGH chocolate! NOT FUN. I only used half of the almond bark for 2 bags of popcorn.

As soon as you melt it drizzle some over your popcorn and then sprinkle peppermint dust over it. Mix with your hands. REPEAT until you feel you are happy with it.

When you are done lay all of your popcorn out on wax paper. Let it dry completely. When it is dry you can break them up and EAT THEM!!

Oh MY WORD. This looks like little puffs of perfection. RIGHT! AND THEY ARE PINK! I hope you enjoy making this and let your kids help out. It’s a great thing for them to do and they will NEVER forget it!

Sending you all of the pink popcorn in the world,
